Advent on Croatian islands
Christmas time is here! And what better way to be merry than in Croatia, especially with lots of Advent events going on in the cities and on the islands.
We’ve handpicked a few of the most interesting ones which will surely make spending Christmas holidays in Croatia unforgettable and also make for an immersive experience of local Christmas traditions.

We’re starting off with a quick roundup of Advent programs on Croatian islands.
Krk on island Krk
The biggest town on the island, Krk is hosting its first Advent in Krk manifestation.
The manifestation started on November 27th and ends on Christmas eve, December 24th. Most of the events will take place just outside the Veliki park.
The manifestation is organized by the Tourist Board of City Krk, the City Krk Culture Center with the support of City Krk and Vecla which provides the city’s Christmas decoration.
The program is full of concerts (e.g. The After Work Jazz Quartet and concerts of ambiental Christmas music), children’s theatre plays, workshops, and exhibitions. Of course, the atmosphere wouldn’t be complete without the stands with local food, heartwarming tea, and mulled wine.
Supetar on island Brač
From December 17th until New Year’s Eve the old fish market next to the Primary school in Supetar will become Christmas Corner, the go-to place for all merry Christmas lovers. It will start with a concert by the local band Naranča.
Visitors will also get to enjoy karaoke nights, the Bračologija quiz, concerts of traditional music, chess tournaments, and a play by a local acting group.
This event is organized by City Supetar and the Tourist Board of City Supetar. Food and beverages will be provided by Apinello restaurant, cafe bar Lanterna and Slatka kućica.

Hvar town on island Hvar
After a one-year break due to COVID-19, Croatia’s sunniest island once again hosts its Christmas manifestation. Hvar town’s Christmas program started on November 27th and will include lots of interesting content: concerts in front of the Lođa, the oldest communal theatre in Europe, creative workshops for children, quizzes, and a New year’s program for children.

Advent in Zagreb and Split
If you’re situated on one of Croatia’s islands during the holidays but still want to check out how Christmas holidays are celebrated in Split and the capital Zagreb, here is some info on Advent in these cities.
Split
Lovers of good music and food will have a blast at Split this Christmas holidays. Until January 6th, enjoy a variety of Christmas events including skating in Đardin city park and Mertojak neighborhood. Alongside Đardin and Mertojak, there’ll be events at the Cornaro fort and Perivoj near the city center.
Zagreb
Advent in Zagreb is one of the most popular Christmas-themed events in Europe and this year it lasts until January 7th.
Check out the exhibition of Christmas trees on Gradec Plateau and take a picture for your Instagram profile. If you’re looking for a fairytale atmosphere go to Bela the IVth park (Park Bele IV) and explore the Moon garden and its spectacular light installations.
Advent in Zagreb will be held mostly on five locations: ban Jelačić square, European square, Bogovićeva and Gajeva street and the west part of the Strossmayer promenade.
