Cres Island – 70 km of historic roads reconstructed
With an EU project worth 3.3 million kunas, Cres island reconstructed 70 kilometers of historic island roads.
In the role of the leading partner, the project was coordinated by the Municipality of Comacchio (Italy) with which the City of Cres is collaborating. About 6 more partners from Italy and the Republic of Croatia are involved in the project.
The final conference of the European project VALUE was held in Venice, the seat of the Veneto Region, with the aim of defining a new model of territorial development aimed at the integration of culture, nature and tourism through the improvement of cultural and archaeological sites.
Each of them in Venice presented the results of the project in their area, so on behalf of the City of Cres, a member of the project team Karmen Surdić Benvin spoke about the successful reconstruction of a 70-kilometer-long network of historic roads on the island of Cres.
The reconstructed road has a huge tourist potential
Just on the day when the conference was held on Cres, the Via Apsyrtides – Fastest Known Time project & Long distance hiking trail started, which also includes roads renovated as part of the VALUE project, which shows that the renovated trail has great tourist potential.
The field part of the gathering in Venice consisted of visiting the islands of Torcello and Lazzaretto Nuovo with a tour of the archeological sites, museums and other historical sites.
The total value of the VALUE project is € 3,251,055, of which the project partners participate with € 487,658.25, and the European Union co-finances € 2,763,396.75.
The share of the City of Cres in the total budget of the project is € 406,100.00, of which the awarded grants from EU funds amount to € 345,185.00, and the funds of the City of Cres 60,915.0 euros.
