Dubrovnik-Neretva County is investing in cycling tourism
In Dubrovnik, they see the tourism recovery post-COVID-19 crisis as an opportunity for a paradigm shift in the development and business management of the entire sector. Following the (EU’s) goal of green and digital transition, along with increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, investments are directed towards hiking trails, promenades, educational paths, spas and thermal baths, sports and recreational facilities as well as active tourism zones, but also to cycling infrastructure and trails.
Cyclotourism is one of the fastest-growing branches of tourism in the world. According to European Cycling Federation, the cycling industry contributes 44 billion euros to the EU’s economy.
Precisely with the aim of bigger investments and stronger development of cycling tourism, the Dubrovnik- Neretva County, as a project partner and a part of the European project MIMOSA, developed an Operational plan for the development of cyclotourism.
As a part of the project, an agreement was signed for the arrangement of cyclo-points and cycle centres in the entire county.
Currently, the cycle centre in Popovići, in the Municipality of Konavle, is being arranged. The completion of this investment is expected in May this year, as well as the installation and equipment of 19 servicing cyclo-points throughout the Dubrovnik- Neretva county.
The Dubrovnik- Neretva County is investing and developing cycling tourism in cooperation with the tourist boards in the area.
