Ferry line Rijeka – Zadar turns out to be a hit
The only ferry route between Rijeka and Zadar, even in 2020, despite the pandemic, is showing good results. The catamaran from Rijeka to Zadar makes a few stops: on Krk Island, in Lopar on Rab Island and on Silba. Tourists enjoy the ride, due to the scenery of islands and coast, plus taking the pets and bikes onboard is also available. G&V Line catamaran has air conditioning, tourists can also take a walk, have a coffee or eat something on board. Departure from Rijeka is at 8:15h, and the ride lasts four hours.
This line was introduced last year, with the exception of stopping in Novalja instead of Silba. This year we’ve made that change, but everything else stayed the same. That change showed to be a good decision. Silba is our main destination, and most of the traffic from Rijeka usually goes toward Silba.
Mile Baric, G&V Line Zadar
They conclude that, despite pandemic, traffic stayed the same as last year. Replacing Novalja with Silba is what made the traffic not drop, so decline in passenger traffic was not even felt. Therefore, G&V Line Zadar expects an increase of about 20% in traffic in the future. As for the passengers, foreign tourists are in decline when compared to 2019, as they usually go on shorter trips to Krk and Lopar.
The novelty for this year is that besides bicycles, passengers can also bring their pets onboard. The last departure for 2020 should be on 29th September. As for the safety of passengers during COVID-19, all passengers have to wear a mask when boarding. If they don’t have masks, we can supply them with it, free of charge. Distance has to be kept between passengers in the lounge, while masks have to be worn all the time. After each trip, the catamaran gets properly disinfected.
