The western part of Cres Port opened
A special ceremony was held in Cres on the occasion of the opening of the western part of Cres port. This is a project worth 40.7 million kuna and one of the largest investments in the maritime domain in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County so far. Almost HRK 30 million was co-financed through the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion.
The new outer breakwater, 185 meters long and about 6 meters wide, is used to accommodate liner passenger ships, and the mainland part of the port, which extends to about 280 meters, has also been arranged. The breakwater provides the necessary protection of the waters within the port area and the conditions for the introduction of a larger number of liner ships in year-round navigation.
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect Zlatko Komadina says that there is currently no town or municipality on the sea without a waterfront or breakwater reconstruction project. He claims they have fully contributed to changing the views of our cities and municipalities and to improving tourism and maritime affairs. He concludes they are approaching the amount of about 400 million kuna of investment.
Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković pointed out that in recent years exceptional investments have been made in port infrastructure, and that the amount reaches 2 billion kuna at the Croatian level, with most funds coming from the EU.
Anton Opatić, director of CPA Cres, described the project as the most important project of the County Port Authority, which was successfully implemented with the synergy of line ministries, the County and the City. The Mayor of Cres, Marin Gregorović, also thanked for the support and expressed his belief that Cres will continue to grow as a destination for maritime and port traffic.
The port of Cres is also the first port to have a reception for black and grey tanks, which increases the safety of maritime navigation in the Cres waters.
