Hvar Island declared as the 4th best in Europe
Island of Hvar has received another high international recognition, an award given by the readers of the world-famous Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The readers have declared Hvar in the top 5 European islands.
For the 33rd year in a row, the magazine has organized a selection of the best islands in the world. Over 715 thousand readers have voted for the best of the best. The winner was announced in early October, when the laureates were published for each continent. Hvar island was placed 4th in the category of European islands. Other notable European islands on the list include Greek islands Folegandros, Zakynthos, Crete, Mykonos and Skiathos, the UK’s Jersey Island, Ischia in Italy, Mallorca in Spain and Turkish island of Bozcaada.
As for the Hvar, the magazine emphasizes that it’s a great destination for visiting all year round, especially due to the warm summers and mild winters. One of the most known statistics for Hvar was also underlined, the fact it’s the sunniest island in Croatia, with over 2800 sunny hours in a year. There is also rich cultural and historical heritage of Hvar town, Fortica fortress and Arsenal and Hvar Theater, which are a must-see sights. Another interesting fact mentioned was the lavender harvest, which is one of the main summer activities. The tradition took place in 2020, despite the Coronavirus pandemic.
This award is proof that tourism on Hvar Island is going in the right direction. The island is constantly being recognized as a popular and luxury tourist destination. With over 50 thousand arrivals and 280 thousand overnight stays, the award proves that the summer season on the island was successful, despite the pandemic. The Hvar Tourist Board is continuing with preparations for the 2021 season, which should be very challenging. The board management is hoping for help from the government and banks, so that the island can continue to produce good results.
