Island Ist
Despite island Ist being an Island of less than 10 km2 and with a population of fewer than 200 people, the island has 3 ferry connections to the mainland and other islands nearby. The island which looks a bit like a butterfly, only has one settlement, Ist town, located in the center of the island, with access to a northern and southern bay.
There are two ports on the Island, the port Široka is in the southern bay, which is where the catamaran arrives, the other port is Kosirača is in the northern bay, where the car ferry arrives. The distance between the two ports is a bit more than 1 km.
Getting to Island Ist
As mentioned above, island Ist is connected to Zadar on the mainland with 3 ferry connections, 2 of them being car ferry connections and the last being a fast ferry/catamaran connection.
The catamaran connection to the island operates daily year round, the catamaran routes sail from Zadar via Island Molat to the Široka port on Ist, except for once a week where it sails directly to island Ist. The sailing time from Zadar to Ist is between 1 hour and 20 and 50 minutes. Here you can see the catamaran departures to and from the Island, and also buy tickets directly.
The two car ferry routes to the Island are the following:
- Route 433: Zadar (Gaženica) – Rivanj – Sestrunj – Zverinac – Molat – Ist
- Route 403: Zadar (Gaženica) – Ist – Olib – Silba – Premuda – Mali Lošinj
Route 433 sails to Ist during the summer season. In this period there are two weekly departures to and from the island, and the sailing time on this route is around 4 hours.
Route 403 sails to Ist year-round, each week there are 4 to 5 departures in each direction, and the sailing time is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Price ferry Zadar – Ist
A one way trip with the ferry or catamaran from Zadar to Ist is fairly cheap. An adult ticket for the catamaran costs about 40 Kuna in the main summer season, 30 Kuna in the low summer season and 20 Kuna in the winter. The car ferry costs 30 Kuna in the summer and 25 Kuna in the winter. Bringing a car from Zadar to Ist will cost you from 170 Kuna (one-way ticket).
