Isle of Mars festival on Mljet island scheduled for 2021
A group of young adventurers have started a new festival on Mljet island. The idea behind the festival is to present a Robinson oasis on the island, accompanied by a rich festival program. Festival is called Isle of MARS and will take place in the summer season. Both locals and tourists are welcome to attend and join.
Festival organizers are good friends, they even crossed the Atlantic ocean some ten years ago. Today, Pavel and Dora, along with Krešimir and Iva, a couple from Osijek, are working together to bring the festival to the island. Four of them connected immediately and came to an idea of creating an oasis with creative people, accompanied by untouched natural beauties of Mljet Island, all within the Mediterranean forests of Babino Polje village.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has been in full swing in summer 2020, they’ve organized several workshops for kids and adults, movie nights, tournaments, art shows and other activities. The idea for the Isle of Mars festival was born after one of the organizers saw a small piece of forest next to Babino Polje village. They’ve begun cleaning the area immediately, which will be the center part of the festival in 2021.
Despite the challenging year, this Robinson festival was attractive to many visitors, plus it was widely welcomed by the locals. The island festival was visited by kids, fisherman, firefighters and weekend visitors, in addition to other figures from Croatian culture. In 2021, the festival will be expanded to another area, Odysseus cave in Mljet.
To reach Mljet Island, you can take a ferry from Dubrovnik or from Prapratno on the mainland.
