Jadrolinija presents new ferries, gives updates on COVID-19 measures
Croatian state ferry company Jadrolinija has purchased two new ferries. Protoporos IV (now called Lošinj) and Glykofilous III (now called Ugljan) were both built in Greece, and Jadrolinija bought them from Aquamarine Developments company, for a total of 5.18 million euros.
After arriving at Mali Losinj Port, both ferries were meant to be used instantly. Ferry Ugljan started operating the Zadar – Preko route, while Lošinj ferry is still boarded in Mali Losinj on Losinj island. Its first departure is scheduled for the beginning of 2021.
Jadrolinija has established its strategy for renewal of the fleet. They plan to have faster, larger and newer ferries on their routes, while also ensuring comfort and efficiency for passengers travelling to Croatian islands. With these two ferries, Jadrolinija’s fleet now counts 54 vessels. Lošinj ferry can transport 600 passengers and 140 vehicles. It has a total length of 97.85 meters, width of 16 meters and can reach the speed of 13 knots.
In other news, many passengers have warned Jadrolinija about their crew members and other passengers not following the COVID-19 measures given by the government. This applies to wearing masks while on ferries. Jadrolinija has received this notice, and has stated it will take more care about it in the future. In their written note, they’ve emphasized that they’ve been respecting the measures since the beginning of pandemic. Employees and crew members are following these rules, but of course there are exceptions. By wearing the masks, you protect yourself and others, they’ve concluded. The official Jadrolinija website has a notice which says that wearing the masks is mandatory in the ferry:
According to the Decision of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia regarding the organization of public transportation during the COVID-19 epidemic, we hereby inform you that from 25 June 2020 all passengers are required to wear medical masks or protective face masks. We also kindly ask you to follow the recommendations on preventing the spread of the coronavirus, such as regular hand washing, maintaining distance from other passengers, and purchasing of tickets online or via our mobile app.
