Krk Island gets Maritime Heritage Interpretation Center in Malinska

An Interpretation Center for Maritime Heritage is being built in Malinska, on the island of Krk. The construction of the HRK 10 million Maritime Heritage Interpretation Center with club premises has begun.

In Malinska, after the realization of the coastal part near the Maestral Hotel and the Square in the centre, and the reconstruction of the “Big Boat Waterfront” completed this summer, the construction of the Center continues the realization of the strategy set by tender and affirmation of public spaces Malinska that have long been neglected.

In addition to the exhibition and interpretation facilities, the Center will also have a place for club premises for local fishermen and sailors, in accordance with the tradition of Malinska.

With the help of modern multimedia technologies, visitors to Malinska will be introduced to all aspects of its maritime heritage. The exhibition will be valuable and authentic objects, various artefacts, documents and other exhibits. The presentation is planned with modern technologies and at educational-demonstration events, workshops and gatherings. As part of this, the knowledge and skills of island shipbuilders and caulkers will be presented. There will be events in front of the Center, in the next phase of the project in the sea part where a port will be formed in which traditional boats will be located, and the Božjan boat which the Municipality has renovated with the intention of organized presentation.

With an integrated approach to solving the problem of public spaces from the architectural tender to the realization, the Municipality of Malinska-Dubašnica becomes an example to follow. With the construction of the Center, the communities will, in addition to an additional tourist product, get a multifunctional space that will serve the residents of Malinska throughout the year. Construction is expected to be completed by the summer of 2021.
