Krk Island – tourism report for the first 9 months of 2020
In September 2020, Krk island had 32,281 arrivals and 21,3305 overnight stays. Compared to September 2019, that is 68.66% less in arrivals and 64.42% less in overnight stays.
There were 24.56% of domestic guests in arrivals and 11.68% in overnight stays. On the other hand, there were 24.36% foreign guests in arrivals and 88.32% in overnight stays.
The largest number of arrivals and overnight stays had private accommodations with 13,084 arrivals and 111,008 overnight stays, camps had 12,945 arrivals and 77,067 overnight stays, while hotels had 6,206 arrivals and 24,994 overnight stays. Resorts, lodgings for the night and campsites achieved 46 arrivals and 236 overnight stays.
The highest number of arrivals and overnight stays in October was realized in the Krk town with 9,451 arrivals and 63,617 overnight stays, and Krk town accounts for 29.82% of the total island traffic. It is followed by Baska with 7,081 arrivals and 44,879 overnight stays, then Punat with 4,044 arrivals and 24,869 overnight stays.
In September 2020, there was a new division of emitting markets, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The domestic market continued to grow in arrivals (index 262) with 182.60% in overnight stays and a share of 11.68 in total overnight stays on the island of Krk. The largest number of arrivals and overnight stays was realized by Germans 12,073 arrivals (-68%) and 116,545 overnight stays (-57%). The share of Germans is still high (54.64)%. In second place are Poles who made 3,263 arrivals (+5%) and 20,460 overnight stays (+4%), the share of overnight stays is 9.59%. In the third place are the Czechs with a share of 7.99% with 2,353 arrivals (-28%) and 17,042 overnight stays (-33%), followed by Austrians, Slovenes, Romanians, Italians, and guests from Serbia.
We can conclude that Island Krk in September was dominated by domestic guests – Germans, Czechs, Poles and Romanians.
First nine months of 2020
In the first nine months of 2020, Krk island had a total of 426,178 arrivals and 2,598,716 overnight stays realized. Compared to the same period in 2019, arrivals are lower by 49.75%, and overnight stays by 46.35%.
There were 51,921 arrivals and 227,431 overnight stays realized by domestic guests and 374,257 arrivals and 2,371,285 overnight stays by foreign guests.
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded by guests from Germany (875,885), followed by Slovenia (361,740) and the third place was taken by domestic guests with 202,464.
The total basic capacity on the island of Krk in 2020 (registered until 07.10.2020) is 59,798 basic beds (-0.83%) from 2019 or less by 498 beds, and 5,878 extra beds were registered, which is drastic decrease by 6,780 beds or decrease by 46.43%, and the largest decrease in beds is in family accommodation (- 45.74%).
Although it is difficult to compare the data with 2019, it is important to point out that the achievements in the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic are good and the season was well-done in most Croatian islands. In the cumulative, 54% of last year’s results were achieved on Krk.
The data show that the best achievements are in family accommodation with a participation of 61.93% in total traffic and in camps where the participation is 52.55%, while in hotels 32.39% (some of the hotels did not open, in Njivice, Krk and Baska).
The average stay has increased and is now 6.10 days and the emitting markets are different compared to previous years, but the primacy is still held by Germans with a share of 38%. They also reached a turnover of 63% of last year’s turnover while other emitting markets are Slovenians, Czechs, Poles and followed by Austrians, Hungarians, Italians and others.
The results are extremely good (regarding the situation) from the domestic market because domestic guests increased their share in the total turnover by 8.75%, and the achievements in arrivals and overnight stays increased by 8% in arrivals and 4.5% in overnight stays.
