Lokrum Reserve opening delayed due to rabbit disease on the island

The Lokrum Reserve opened its doors to visitors on May the 15th, 2021, instead of May the 8th, as previously planned.

Namely, on the island of Lokrum, it was determined that part of the rabbit was infected with the hemorrhagic disease. A detailed analysis conducted by the Croatian Veterinary Institute confirmed this disease in rabbits. The State Inspectorate of the Republic of Croatia was notified of the finding and the veterinary inspector carried out the inspection. It was decided to conduct an additional detailed examination of the entire island to identify the presence of diseased individuals.

The reserve emphasizes that this disease cannot be transmitted to humans or other animals, but it can also be taken off the island and endanger other rabbits through indirect contact with the pathogen, such as clothing or footwear.

In order to minimize the risk of rabbits – pets or individuals in the commercial breeding of our visitors, Lokrum Reserve has decided to postpone the opening until May 15, as by then the infectivity and the possibility of contact with the remaining biological material will be significantly reduced.

We sincerely apologize to visitors for this delay, but we believe that in this way we have protected all our fellow citizens who have rabbits at home, given that this disease is highly transmissible and deadly to rabbits.

Promotional prices until the end of June

We remind you that enjoying the natural beauties of the special forest vegetation reserve of the Island of Lokrum can be achieved at promotional prices of all tickets with a 50% discount in the period from May 8 to June 30, 2021.

The price of the main ticket with a return boat ticket from the city port and tickets to the Reserve is 100 kuna, and the ticket purchased at Lugareva Kuća (Lugar’s house) on the island, if you come with your own boat or another arrangement, is 75 kuna.

You can visit the Lokrum Reserve every day from 10 am to 6 pm in compliance with epidemiological measures and tickets can be purchased at Peskarija and Lugareva Kuća sales points.
