Losinj and Cres islands record better stats than in 2019
The first half of June was beyond successful for Croatian tourism, especially for the islands of Losinj and island Cres. In the first half of June, there were 5% more overnight stays in the area of Losinj compared to the first half of June 2019, the last year relevant for comparison, before the pandemic.
From June 1 to 15, the Tourist Board of Lošinj registered 21,370 tourists who spent 127,403 overnight stays. That is about 110% compared to last year and 100% in arrivals. When it comes to accommodation facilities, most guests chose campsites which recorded 8,208 guests or 56,598 overnight stays (index 270). In private accommodation (apartments and rooms) there were 3,944 guests with 23,869 overnight stays (index 205). Hotels had 5,371 arrivals and 22,180 overnight stays (index 140).
Almost half of the guests (46.4%) were Germans, followed by citizens of Slovenia (16.4%), Austria (9.7%), Croatia (9.3%), Italy (6.6%), the Czech Republic (1.9%), Poland (1.2%), etc. The biggest increase in the number of overnight stays by nationality compared to last year is among German guests.
Cres island records 66% more traffic than last year
In the area of Cres, during June, the number of tourist overnight stays increased by 4% compared to June 2019, the last one before the so-called corona crisis and 66% more compared to last June.
According to statistics from the office of the Tourist Board of Cres, this June, 23,694 guests stayed here and spent 156,201 nights. Regarding the nationalities, guests from Germany had the most overnight stays, slightly more than 70,000. Guests from Slovenia had slightly more than 27,000, guests from Austria had slightly more than 17,000, while guests from Italy had slightly less than 16,000 overnight stays.
Of the total number in June, 64% of nights were spent in camping accommodation, 29% in private apartment accommodation and 7% in hotels, reports Željka Stašić, the new director of the Cres Tourist Board. Also, she is very optimistic about the main part of the tourist season, judging by the announcements from the field.
