Pag Island and Rab Island – Tourist Numbers for August
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Croatian islands Pag and Rab are having a solid summer season. In the last week of August, a nice number of tourists remain on Pag. Even though Slovenians and Austrians left the island, a significant number of people from Germany, Poland, Hungary, Czech and Slovakia remain there.
According to the eVisitor system, the majority of tourists are staying in camps, followed by private accommodation and hotels. As for the nationalities – a nice surprise for this season are Polish people. They’ve been informed that COVID-19 stats for Croatia could be false, but despite that, still don’t leave their country prematurely. According to the Croatian Tourist Board, numbers for the entire Zadar County and Island Pag are at 70% of last year’s. That is considered an extremely good result, especially since first estimates projected no more than 30% of traffic from 2019.
In the first 25 days of August on Rab Island, in Rab Town and Lopar Town, there was a total of 486.665 overnight stays, 73% of traffic when compared to 2019. When you add those numbers to the first seven months of 2020, we get a total of 1.164.182 overnight stays, 64% when compared to the numbers from 2019. People of Rab Island now hope for the continuation of these numbers in the postseason, which started when Slovenians and Austrians returned home. Numbers confirm that – on the 26th of August, there were only 13% of Slovenians and Austrians on the island when compared to the same day of last year. A total of 17.700 guests were on the island on Wednesday, 19th August. That number dropped to 12.890 the next day, a 38% decrease compared to 2019.
