Pasman island – announced the bridge to connect the island to the mainland

The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure held a presentation of the Feasibility Study for connecting the island of Pašman with the mainland.

Pašman will be connected to the mainland with a bridge 2203.5 meters long or approximately the length of the Pelješac Bridge. Instead of a more expensive suspension bridge, the plan is to build a girder bridge, the total price of which should be HRK 452 million, therefore about 5 times cheaper than the bridge connecting Pelješac.

Main objectives of the project

The presentation highlighted the main goals of the project, such as creating a permanent and stable transport connection that is not affected by weather conditions and improving the accessibility of the island for its inhabitants.

Three options were considered in the study on bridge construction: bridge construction (variant 1 – girder bridge and variant 2 – suspension bridge), construction of an immersed tunnel and introduction of additional fast and frequent ship and ferry lines.

Construction will take three years

Based on the consideration of all criteria, the option of building a girder bridge with a length of 2203.5 m was chosen. The bridge with an estimated investment of HRK 452 million will have two parts: Bridge from the mainland to island Ričul and Bridge from island Ričul to Pašman. The planned duration of construction would be 3 years.

The financial analysis of the study identified the need for co-financing of the project, while its economic analysis indicates a positive impact of the project on the island of Pašman.

The study also predicts taking further steps which include the preparation of additional technical documentation, the necessary field research, a comprehensive assessment of the project’s effects and a more detailed elaboration of investment and operating costs.
