RAB – A new Virtual Museum of Fisheries, Maritime and Shipbuilding was presented
In Rijeka’s Kortil gallery, the Virtual Museum of Fishing, Seafaring and Shipbuilding in Rab – JUXTA MARE was presented to the media.
On Thursday in Rijeka, in the Kortil gallery, a press conference was held in the organization of TZG Rab, on the occasion of the upcoming opening of the Virtual Museum of Fisheries, Maritime Affairs and Shipbuilding of the City of Rab, JUXTA MARE – reports rabdanas.com
Virtual museum
It is a TZ project worth HRK 1.1 million, the financing of which was achieved through the LAGUR Tramuntana tender. It is financed through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development measures financed from EU funds, the goal of which is the valorization of Rab’s maritime heritage.
In addition to the director of the TZ of the city of Rab, also the project manager Ivana Matušan, the mayor of the city of Rab Nikola Grgurić and the director of the Croatian Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić participated in the conference. A newly opened digital application was presented to the public that is accessible to everyone and that tells the story of the fishing history and traditions of the town of Rab in a modern way.
The virtual museum in Croatian and English is designed to be interesting for both the local population and visitors to this “island of happiness”. The goal is to connect Rab’s fishing heritage and tourism, and to perpetuate in a unique and modern way the life of the islanders with which they fed their villages and families throughout the centuries.
Virtual museum application
The museum includes 13 points, locations on the Rab coast that speak about the history and traditions of the region, shipbuilders, fishermen and their families. On the Rab promenade, metal panels have been placed on which, as well as through the use of a web application, you can learn about the history of Rab, said Matušan.
By simply scanning the QR code from the placed panels, the user with a smartphone can access the entire content of the virtual museum with the so-called augmented reality and attractive three-dimensional objects in digital format.
– It is a valuable multidisciplinary project of general interest for the development of Rab and our tourism, but it means much more to us. Modern technology is the best way to snatch what happened on Rab over the centuries from oblivion, valorize it and integrate it into one educational, economic and touristic story, said Rab’s mayor Grgurić.
And HTZ director Kristjan Staničić said that the Juxta Mare project gives Rab new value that complements the existing tourist offer.
It should be noted that academic sculptor Mladen Šćerbe, historian prof. Ph.D. Neven Budak and the Nomacom company helped in creating a virtual museum, while its first phase was co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
