Rab – Reconstruction of the Pumpurela pier is underway

The long-awaited works on the reconstruction of the port of Rab will begin with the mooring of the barge “Fiumanka” equipped with a 70-meter crane with a carrying capacity of 180 tons and accompanying machines and facilities.

As we have learned from the Rab County Port Authority, the works on the reconstruction of the Pumpurela pier are being performed by the company Aqua Mont Service Split and the expert supervision service is being carried out by Rijekaprojekt d.o.o. while the project is led by the company Karloline – Kling d.o.o. from Rijeka, writes Rab danas.

The value of all works is HRK 19,800,000.00, of which HRK 19,200,000.00 is provided from EU funds, while HRK 600,000.00 will be provided by ŽLU Rab with its own participation.

The project is financed from the Operational Program for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Measure I.23./I.24. Fishing ports, landing sites, fish exchanges and shelters. The works include the reconstruction of the Pumpurela pier, 140 meters long and 9.5 meters wide, which will be used for the needs of local fishermen. In addition to the provided moorings for boats, fishermen will also have at their disposal an electric vehicle with a capacity of 4 tons, a facility for accommodating ice machines and storage, waste containers and parking for vehicles.

Pumpurela will be lit by modern LED public lighting and equipped with cabinets for water supply and electricity.

Visitors of Rab island that will be arriving from Rijeka, Novalja and Lun Tovarnele will get to enjoy the sight of a new port onboard.

This project is a big undertaking for the Rab County Port Authority, and we believe for the whole island. After many years, we are starting a major infrastructure project in the port of Rab, which is just the beginning of the entire reconstruction and rehabilitation. The planned completion of the works is in April 2021, and in the autumn of the same year, it is planned to begin work on the construction of a protective breakwater in front of the Hotel Arbiana and the rehabilitation of the coast of King Petar Krešimir to Grand. These interventions would prevent the flooding of the old town of Rab and will also provide a new coast and promenade with all communal infrastructure, which will raise the quality and view of the port of Rab to a higher level.
