Reconstruction of Pumpurela completed by the season start

In November last year, work began on the reconstruction of the Pumpurela pier, a fishing port in the port of Rab, which should be completed in April, and the completion of the entire project is planned before the start of the new tourist season.

Pumpurela is another in a series of projects on the maritime domain that the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County with its port authorities has been implementing for almost 20 years and thanks to which the coast of this county gets modern breakwaters, ferry docks, ports and harbours.

The planned works include the reconstruction of the Pumpurela pier from the inside, the extension of the pier roots and the approach, the extension of the pier in full width and the rehabilitation of the pier head. Upon completion of the works, Pumpurela will be intended for the needs of local fishermen. The pier, 140 meters long and 9.5 meters wide will be equipped with efficient LED lighting and cabinets to supply the vessel with electricity and water.

In addition to the possibility of mooring about twenty fishing boats, fishermen will be provided with a manipulative area, an ice storage facility, storage, waste containers and parking for vehicles and a charging station for electric vehicles. They will also have at their disposal an electric vehicle with a capacity of 4 tons.

Complete arrangement of fishing infrastructure

So far, the altitude wall has been removed and the stone head of the pier has been dismantled. The port light has also been removed, which will be restored to its original condition. A stone school was excavated, which was temporarily deposited at the root of the pier, and the first 10 meters of the pier were excavated. Works on laying geotextiles and filling the foundation embankment are in progress. Over 90 concrete elements, prefabricated foundation blocks and hollow elements will be delivered to the construction site zone, which will be installed after the foundation embankment is made.

It is planned that all concrete elements and span girders will be installed by mid-March, followed by the construction of the embankment and the concreting of the filling of the prefabricated blocks and the pier slab. If the weather conditions are favourable and there are no other unforeseen circumstances that would affect the planned dynamics, the works on the reconstruction of the Pumpurela pier should be completed by the beginning of the new tourist season.
