The timetable for the catamarans varies depending on the time of the year. The highest number of daily departures is during July and August, and the fewest departures are from October to April.
Yes, there are ferries year around
Depends on the operator. On catamarans operated by Jadrolinija, you cannot bring your bike. However, on the Krilo Jet catamaran, you can bring your bike but you have to buy a ticket for it in advance, as there are only a few spaces. Alternatively, you can take one of the other ferry connections to Island Hvar, such as the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad. Here you can take a bike without any problem (just remember the bike needs a ticket :-))
No, there are no car ferries on the route Split – Hvar town. You will have to travel from Split to Stari Grad if you want to bring your car.
No, you can not reserve specific seats. However, as Split is the starting location of the catamaran, you should be able to get seats next to each other if you are early in line at the Split port.
Not mandatory, but the ferry Split to Hvar is extremely popular, especially in the summer. So if you wish to board a specific departure, you should definitely buy the ticket in advance, either online or one day before at the port.
Yes, all the catamarans have toilets.
Yes, each of the catamarans has a kiosk/bar, where you can buy, coffee, drinks, and snacks.
Each of the catamaran companies has separate policies, from ticket amendment and cancellation, so you will have to check with them.
You can bring one large suitcase (up to 20 kg, but nobody checks the exact weight :-)), plus a handbag/backpack. The suitcases are stored in the catamaran racks, so keep your valuables and electronics in the handbag.
Yes, of course. There is the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad, and a car ferry from Drvenik to Sucuraj. Moreover, there is a catamaran from Split to Jelsa on Hvar Island and a catamaran from Dubrovnik to Hvar town.
My personal tips for the Split to Hvar trip
- If you like a good view and want so sit together, be early at the port, in summer there can be huge lines for boarding the boat, and as there is free seating, you will simple get better seats if you are first in line.
- If you don’t care about where sit, be the last one to board, as you will then have it way easier with getting your luggage when you need to get of the boat
- Bring a bottle of water, most boats have air-condition, but with +300 people in a fairly small place it can still feel quite warm. Water (And other drinks) you can buy on the boat, but it is way cheaper bringing your own.
- All operators have fairly good ships, so do not pick based on the operator, pick based on the departure time which suits you the most.
- Suitcase are usually pilled up somewhere on the boat, so make sure you have nothing breakable.
