The government will co-finance the water supply on the islands with 16 million kuna
The funds are intended for islands that are not connected to the public water supply system, and the water will be delivered by a water carrier and/or tanker at a subsidized price, the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds announced.
Unfortunately, we are witnessing more frequent and prolonged droughts, and the need for water is especially increased in the summer months.
Due to the reduction in rainfall, many islands are unable to collect rainwater, so drinking water supply through aquifers and cisterns is currently the only alternative.
Figures show that about 4,860 households on 20 islands are not connected to the public water supply network. Some households have a network, but they are not connected to reliable water sources or supplies, which is why they still depend on water delivery. Whether and how this problem will be solved in the near future is still unknown.
For the implementation of this measure in 2022, the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds has provided HRK 15.8 million.
