Namely, almost all works and equipping of the facilities have been completed and the announcement of the recent obtaining of use permits for the facilities as well as the holding of ceremonial openings are announced.
Museum of the City of Korcula renovated due to poor condition
Through the project “Rurally instructive, cultural and ethnographic tourist attraction” which aims to create an integrated tourist offer based on the cultural heritage of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the reconstruction of the Ismaeli-Gabrielis Palace, which houses the Museum of the City of Korčula, was completed. Its poor condition needed a thorough renovation to protect the valuable exhibits, but also all employees and visitors of the Museum. The building is now ready to be equipped and open soon.
Namely, the museum exhibition is designed as a ticket to the island, where visitors will be presented with a model of Korcula with all the important landmarks and sights. Tourists will get a sense of the geographical distance of the island. The ground floor will also feature ‘Korčula in the time of Antiquity’ and a particularly interesting rock that will remain in its original condition to vividly depict history. The museum will also offer a view of the new age, the inevitable Moreška and all the fraternities of the town of Korčula, as well as Korčula through the 19th and 20th centuries. On the third floor, there will be an ambient kitchen from the Middle Ages, a large hall for workshops, lectures, a library and everything you need to enrich the cultural life of Korčula.
Newly built Museum of Gold and Silver
The activities of the newly built Museum of Gold and Silver, which gave Smokvica a valuable cultural institution in the centre, are nearing completion. The museum is ready to be equipped with the existing collection of gold and silver objects that are currently in the parish church and will show the rich cultural and historical heritage of not only Smokvica but also the island of Korčula, all in one place.
Apart from Korčula, the project includes the areas of the Dubrovnik littoral and Mljet, which after the activities will be richer for a new cultural and tourist offer connected in a unique tourist product called ‘Roads of the Past’.
