Zadar works on connecting Gazenica port with city centre

The city of Zadar presented a study on connecting Gaženica port with the city centre. It is a vision of expanding the centre of Zadar towards the port, which offers urban and traffic solutions.

Gaženica is one of the two ferry ports in Zadar from where most of the ferry connections are operated. Passengers here continue to the islands of Ugljan (Zadar-Preko), Rab (Zadar-Lopar) and Lošinj (Zadar-Mali Losinj), and even Ancona. Since the port is located about 5 km from the Old Town, a good connection to the city centre of Zadar proves necessary.

As HRT reports, the eastern part of the city would get the facilities it lacks. On the site of the former railway station that will be moved to the port of Gaženica, the study envisions a park – a large green area with accompanying facilities. From it, Gaženica could be reached on foot, by bicycle or by car. The backbone is to connect old and new Zadar.

Gaženica can be an integrated part of the city center – that’s what it’s all about.

Pero Marušić, author of the study

The whole area becomes a new pedestrian, traffic, residential and recreational zone. With about 850 new places, the parking problem is being solved. With small interventions, Bregdetti Bay becomes a new modern city centre.

Certain projects and urban plans are underway and we need to give clear guidelines to cover this. We are of the opinion that this document provides an answer to the real needs for school, kindergarten, traffic system, parking.

Branko Dukić, Mayor of Zadar

All these solutions represent a vision, a framework for the future development of Zadar. It is up to the citizens and the professional public to give their judgment.
